Lake City FL to home

We stopped at Jim & Shannon's for coffee and donuts.  After those snacks we had birthday cake for Robert's 70th birthday!    The culmination of a fantastic trip and celebration for a mile marker birthday.

We traveled 7742.7 miles and our Subaru gave us 35.4 MPG!!  Glad to be home.

Galveston to Slidell LA

We took a ferry off the east end of the island to avoid Houston and take in a lot of miles driving along the coast.  In Louisiana we crossed the Atchafalaya swamp which is the largest wetlands and swamp in the country.  We drove 18.2 miles thru it on I-10 on elevated pillars.

Galveston

A short driving day with an early check in.  We took a nice long walk along the seawall.  Robert noticed that his right arm was working harder than his left.  When we got back to our room he saw that he had a flat tire.  No tools, no spare. With the purchase of a tire pump from a Wal-Mart down the street he was up and running again with little down time.  We ordered supper from a bistros next door and ate by the pool.  Perfect weather,  warm with a gentle breeze.

San Antonio day 2

Hit the trifecta this trip by meeting with Betty Boudreaux,  the third of the Harrington clan.  She graciously drove into the city to pick us up for lunch then a drive to her lovely home.  We sure appreciated not having to drive.

I walked to the Riverwalk and took a boat ride tour.  Much fun.  Met a couple from Detroit Lakes MN on their way to spend the winter in Naples.  Such a small world-the wife grew up in a small town next to Bejou MN where our friends Karen and Dana live.  They are off to Galveston tomorrow as we are.

San Antonio

Had heavy rain Sunday evening thru Monday morning.  We hung out at our hotel a couple extra hours playing cards until the rain let up.  Getting to our hotel was a piece of cake due to waiting until commute traffic was over.   We were able to get an early check in then walked to the Alamo.

After a break from the Alamo we walked to the Riverwalk for dinner at Margaritaville.  Robert had his first taco and Margarita!

Carlsbad to Fredericksburg TX

Several hours driving with not much to see.  Saw hundreds and hundreds of wind turbines.   Texas is the largest producer of wind power in the US.

The only photo from today was in Pecos County TX near some of the turbines.
